About Us

Established in 1858, the Ponderosa is a site where history echoes and beauty flourishes and in 2014 a new chapter began seeing the entire building being transformed into an elegant restaurant and bar. In 2020 it's adjacent bar opened, entitled Paddy Joes.

The old building structure is still intact but now is home to a quality restaurant featuring fresh seafood, savoury steaks and favourite local dishes served with a special flavour of the area. Patrons can also enjoy speciality drinks and cordials in the 'Ponderosa Bar' where live entertainment is provided every weekend.

The owners and staff strive to make your visit to Ireland's Highest Bar and Restaurant an unforgettable experience providing outstanding food in a familiar and casual atmosphere. You'll find the charm of the Irish in every visit and always feel welcome!

Ireland's Highest Bar

As Ireland Highest Bar and Restaurant we want to welcome all locals and tourists from around the globe. The Ponderosa and surrounding area has a little Irish magic about it and is truly an idyllic spot to enjoy a few drinks whilst also capturing the opportunity to visit one of Ireland's attractions.

Come join us for a cocktail on the deck of our large patio area with breathtaking views of the Sperrin Mountains, visit the pub to view the history and tales of the bar and area from our historical displays around the building and meet locals and tourists. Steeped in character, the Ponderosa will be nothing short of some good irish craic and banter in the bar.
